Green Peas Organic is a registered Ontario non-profit in our second year of operation. Your involvement could have a significant and lasting impact for the plots community.
Here are the roles we currently (March 2018) need help with:
A. Article writer. What GPO is accomplishing is topical from several standpoints — the provision of organic local food, of course, but also community development, wellness, foodways, and the three aspects of sustainability. Our participants have some amazing stories and a wide variety of interests and life journeys. If you have published in these or related areas we would love to talk with you about opportunities.
B. Bookkeeper/accountant. This is a light task – in 2017 we wrote only ten cheques, made 40 deposits – but a vital one to us. A few hours of expert time will be thankfully acknowledged by our cheerful community of growers, and we encourage you to visit to see what your support enables (and to sample the peas and tomatoes!).
C. Small-events co-ordinator. Our schedule includes monthly on-site “tent talks” to share expertise, spring and fall meetings to open and close the season, a seedlings sale in May, and occasional work bees to manage the site. This year, resources permitting, we will add an open house and plant-related arts events such as sketching, to be led by local volunteers. Our community of 50 participants has a variety of languages and life schedules; typical event attendance is 10. With a small community, the work is easy, but the season moves quickly: this role needs someone who can give regular brief bursts of focus.
